Q & A Section

1. What is the Tarp Tow® system?

The Tarp Tow® system is a patented device that is designed to connect using our special formulated polyethylene sheeting that has been approved only after years of testing. It not only easily moves your fallen tree leaves (leaf attachment riding mower) during fall clean up, but it easily moves large and heavy loads of outdoor debris materials (such as tree limbs, tree trunks, bush trimmings, grass clippings, leaves, mulch) safely.

This system can be placed almost anywhere, allowing your debris to be blown, raked, or cut to fall directly onto it so you can just take your debris directly to your dump site using your riding lawn mower or zero turn. This system allows you to finish your yard work in no time while using less energy doing it.

2. Why should I buy the Tarp Tow® system and not a utility cart or garden trailer?

  • First of all, I couldn't find any utility cart or garden type trailer that would meet all my needs because they usually are not large enough to handle the size of my loads and they won’t fit in tight places around my yard.

    • Have you ever tried to put a 20' long tree branch onto a utility cart? Doesn't work well at all because I have tried it all.  (This was why I was dragging a tarp in the first place.) This is what makes the Tarp Tow® Device so great because you can cut your sheet lengths as short or as long as you need for your debris or material.

  • Secondly, you have to lift everything up about 2 to 3 feet just to load a garden trailer.  Doing this process over and over will wear you out very fast.

  • The third issue is the storage of the trailer itself.  Most garden trailers have a large foot print, making them hard to store and taking up so much room when not in use. The Tarp Tow® System can be easily assembled and attached to your riding lawn mower and can be left attached because it only adds inches in length, allowing easy storage. Try doing that with a utility cart or garden trailer!

3. What do you mean when you say any type of foldable sheet material, such as a tarp, plastic, or cloth sheet can be used within the Tarp Tow® system?

The Tarp Tow® system utilizes a patented clamp design that allows the use of any type of foldable type sheet material to be used. The actual clamping point gets tighter the harder you pull on it when towing.

This patented clamp does not require grommets in the sheet material as a connection point.   By eliminating the use of grommets, you not only increase the towing capacity of the tarp or sheet, but now you can tow using any type of foldable sheet material. We recommend using our special formulated approved polyethylene sheeting for moving all your debris or material.

4. What do you mean by not using a grommet type connection point within the sheet material?

The majority of tarps sold today have grommets within the material to be used as a way to hold the tarp down or in position by using a cable, rope or bungee cord. Under this type connect point you will find out that under heavy loads or continuous use that the grommets will pull or tear out of the material.  The Tarp Tow® System can use any type of foldable sheet material because it does not require grommets within the material as a connection point.

5. How long will the special formulated approved polyethylene sheeting last during use?

Over the past three years of testing we have found that special formulated polyethylene sheeting is the material of choice to use because it is easily 100 times more durable then any comparable tarp material that is within the same price range and size. We have used the same two polyethylene sheets over the past three years for all our testing and still use them today. They do show tons of wear with cuts and tears in the material, but they work great. We just recommend layering your sheets together as they wear and for heavy loads (results may vary).

6. How much does the approved formulated polyethylene sheeting cost?

The cost of purchasing either a 10' x 25' individual plastic sheet at $30) or buying it in a roll at 10’ x 100’ roll (avg per sheet from roll $20). You can buy either, but you will have a cost saving around $10 per sheet when buying it in a roll.

7. What model (series) should I choose for my tractor?

Tarp Tow has three different models (series) to choose from depending on your needs. The Economy Series for both zero turn and riding lawn mowers starting at $99 is perfect for small yards and jobs. The Residential Series starting at $129 for zero turns and $159 for riding lawn mowers are made for people who have larger yards and bigger needs than our Economy Series. And lastly, is our Commercial Series starting at $179 for zero turns and $229 for riding lawn mowers that are built for Maximum Capacity and Strength for all your moving needs. 8. Please explain the chart above about plastic sheet maximum widths and layering them together to be used for each series (models) listed?

Layering of your approved formulated polyethylene sheeting is used for moving heavy loads or when pulling over sharp objects to prevent break thru in the sheet material.

When moving lighter materials and debris such as bush trimming and leaves you don't really have to worry about break thru because they don't have sharp points with a lot of force on them such as a heavy tree trunk or large branches with sharp and/or broken branches that tend to try to break thru.

The chart above shows you what the capacity is of each model (series) so you can purchase the best model for your needs at your house.

The Economy Series can connect a 10' wide x 25' long polyethylene sheet as a single layer. This will work great for lighter loads such as bush trimming, leaves, and mulch. Now, when you need to pull heavy loads with sharp points you can just fold the 10' sheet in half to make it just 5' wide using dual layers of polyethylene sheets that will allow you to pull the sharper debris with just smaller capacity as before because the sheet is folded.

The Residential Series can connect a 10' wide x 25' long and up to 15' wide max if needed. Now when pulling heavy loads using this series you can dual layer two polyethylene sheets together for keeping the same 10' width capacity as before, but now you can pull heavy loads over sharp objects without fear of break thru.

The Commercial Series can do the same as the other and it can do a single layer up to 20' wide max, but we still recommend using 10' x 25' polyethylene sheeting. This series is designed to be able to use up to four layers of sheets to give you the maximum strength on pulling the heaviest loads and the sharpest material or being pulled over very destructive ground.

Our rule of thumb is as one sheet wears to add another layer on the top of the old one and to use them now in a dual layer setup as you go. Using this technique has allowed us to keep the same two sheets on our testing for the past three years (results may vary).

9. How does it connect to my lawn tractor?

The Tarp Tow® system is engineered to have a universal mounting design that easily attaches to the rear receiver hitch of both new and old style riding lawn tractors. The Tarp Tow® system comes with all the needed hardware and a step-by-step manual on how to install it onto your lawn tractor. Once purchased you will be given access to installation videos to be used with your installation manual to make your install quick and easy.  You can always take it to your local lawn mower shop and they can easily attach it for you if don’t feel “hands-on” enough.

10. Can I use the Tarp Tow® System with my vehicle or ATV?

The Tarp Tow® System can be directly connected to the trailer ball receiver hitch on most ATV's and has a soon-to-be-released optional adapter kit that will allow the system to be connected to a standard 2” receiver hitch.  Even if you do not own a lawn tractor, this will allow you to use the Tarp Tow® system with all vehicles, tractors, or ATV's that have a 2" receiver hitch.
